Something Borrowed Brooch

Throwing the garter at a wedding is not as popular a tradition as it used to be.  As most garters were made with a blue ribbon to cover the ‘something blue’ in the well known verse, brides are coming up with new ways to incorporate the colour into their wedding day.

I came up with this idea for a colleague to give her sister on her wedding day.   A brooch that covers all the wedding day must haves…Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue.

Something Old – This stunning mother of pearl pin belonged to the mother of the bride.

Something New – The little penguin charm was bought new and is a reference to a joke that the bride and her sister share.

Something Borrowed – The sister of the bride has loaned this little trumpet as the something borrowed, a meaningful charm she wears on a necklace every day.

Something Blue – We added this tiny blue bead to complete the brooch.  We didn’t want anything too overpowering that would take away from the special meaning of the rest of the piece.

We left the brooch in the box that the pin came in and printed out the verse to fit inside the lid.

This is a really special gift for any bride.   Please do get in touch if you’d like me to help you with something similar.
