Updated Charity Shop Side Tables

One of the bargains of my Op-Shop-Hopping day out last week was a set of three nesting side tables.  Really old school wooden rectangular tables in three sizes.  We needed side tables but I wanted a project rather than a shop bought style.  I didn't know what I'd do with them at the time (what's new?!)but something in my imagination had to have them, and the price made it an easy decision.

The rest was easy - I made the chevron pattern from painters tape and covered the legs in cling wrap.  I put tape around the edge of the top surface as I only wanted the spray paint to hit the very top and not the sides as well.   I just used a gold spray paint from a hobby store.  My favourite part comes once the paint has dried, the peeling of the tape!   Rip off the cling film and you're done!

What a fun update to any living room.  I'm not a fan of matchy-matchy furniture but this wood is the same as our floor boards so still works in the room.

UPDATE: Since using these tables I've noticed that the spray paint is not holding very well and seems to be scratching off.  Usually I would sand the wood first which means the paint would be absorbed and held better but I didn't want to lose the glossy surface of the original wood.  So I've painted a layer of PVC glue over the top which will hopefully stop the scratching.  I'll let you know if it doesn't work!
